What is Locking Wheel Nut Removal?

Locking wheel nut removal can help when you find yourself in a fix. Locking Wheel Nuts have been used by car manufacturers for decades to combat wheel theft. If your vehicle is fitted with locking wheel nuts, the only way to remove the wheel is by using the locking wheel nut key (socket) which is specific to the locking wheel nut fitted to your vehicle.

Some manufacturers such as Tesla do not fit locking wheel nuts and more manufacturers are following suit as wheel theft is less common than in previous years.

What Does A Locking Wheel Nut Key Look Like?

Your locking wheel nut key will look something like the picture Below. It is a small metal socket with a unique pattern which is inserted to the locking wheel nut allowing it to be removed. 

Your locking wheel nut is usually located in one of two areas. You will locate it either in the glove box or in the boot of your car.

Some manufacturers such as Mercedes supply your locking wheel nut key in a plastic box along with 4 other standard replacement bolts. Other manufacturers such as Ford supply the key in a plastic bag and BMW have a holder under the boot lining where the locking wheel nut key sits.
