Why would a TPMS Sensor Need Replacing?
TPMS Sensor replacement can be required for many reasons. TPMS sensors are only designed to last between 5-7 years depending on how many miles the vehicle does.
Each sensor is powered by a small battery which enables the signal to be sent to the cars computer system. When the battery gets low or drains completely a light will permanently show on the dashboard.
These sensors do not get changed like rubber valves every time the tyres do. Often recommended servicing isn’t carried out leading to adverse wear.
Also, damage caused by tyre deflation such as a puncture can damage the sensor when the tyre is driven on flat.
What is TPMS Sensor Replacement?
TPMS, short for Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, comprises tiny electric sensors installed on every wheel of a vehicle to oversee tire pressure, transmitting this information to the car.
If there’s a shift in air pressure in one or more tyres, the system triggers a yellow warning light on the dashboard to notify the driver.
Since 2014, all newly manufactured vehicles in the UK come equipped with TPMS, and any car with a malfunctioning or non-functional system will not pass its MOT test.
