Puncture Repair Service Coventry

Why You Might Need A Puncture Repair Service

Unexpected tyre punctures can disrupt your daily commute, and while we may not anticipate them, they happen more often than we realize. The road presents various challenges – sharp objects, uneven terrain, and general wear – all of which can compromise the integrity of your tyres. In some cases, punctures are not caused by a single incident but are the result of gradual damage over time. If you need a reliable puncture repair service, Simply Tyres Coventry offers comprehensive solutions to address these issues effectively. Let’s walk through the typical journey of a puncture, from causes to repair.

Common Causes of Tyre Punctures

Tyre punctures can be tricky to detect, but several common culprits are frequently at play:

  • Sharp objects: Items like nails, glass shards, or other road debris can easily penetrate the tyre and cause air leakage.
  • Tyre wear and deterioration: Over time, tyres weaken and become less capable of handling the vehicle’s weight and road conditions, making them more susceptible to punctures.
  • Poorly Repaired Punctures: Poorly repaired tyres can also be vulnerable, especially when manoeuvring under high stress or heavy loads.

Consequences of a Tyre Puncture

When a tyre punctures, air escapes, leading to reduced tyre pressure. This not only impacts the performance of the tyre but can also result in severe damage to both the rim and tyre tread. Here’s what might happen:

  • Blowouts: A sudden tyre burst is one of the most dangerous outcomes of a puncture. When the tyre material gives way, the tyre can flatten almost immediately, leaving little to no time to regain control of the vehicle. In such cases, the tyre is often beyond repair, and the situation can be costly and hazardous.
  • Slow leaks: A more gradual air leak can occur over several days. While not as immediately dangerous as a blowout, a slow leak still requires prompt attention. You’ll have more time to address the issue, but driving on a tyre with reduced pressure for long periods can cause significant damage.

What to Do in Case of a Puncture

If you experience a puncture, whether it’s a blowout or a slow leak, avoid slamming on the brakes. Sudden braking can lead to skidding, especially since the tyre’s inflation is compromised. Instead, gradually bring the vehicle to a safe stop and park on the roadside with your hazard lights on.

Temporary Fixes

For minor punctures, a canned sealant can serve as a temporary fix. This latex-based solution is injected into the tyre, sealing punctures. It’s a quick fix that could get you home and you can then call Simply Tyres Coventry and arrange a puncture repair service safely. However, this sealant is very unreliable and only works in certain circumstances.

Permanent Repair Options

This is the only puncture repair service we offer which is to British Standard and guarantees the safety of the tyre.

  1. Patch Repair: One of the most common and effective methods, patch repairs involve removing the tyre, smoothing the punctured area, and applying rubber cement. A patch is then pressed onto the inside of the tyre to fully seal the puncture. This is the method that we use!
  2. Plugging: Another method involves removing the object causing the puncture and filling the cavity with rubber cement. While plugging is widely used, patching is often preferred for its more durable, long-term results.
